In the second quarter of 2022, the top five social networking applications on the iOS platform in Africa exhibited different performance trends in weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here is a detailed look at each app's performance based on data from Sensor Tower.

WhatsApp Messenger saw a consistent weekly revenue, starting at around $2 and peaking at $4 by the end of June. Weekly downloads initially dropped from approximately 178K at the end of March to around 41K in mid-April but recovered to about 126K by the end of June. Active users remained relatively stable, fluctuating slightly around 8.7M throughout the quarter.

Facebook showed a notable increase in weekly revenue, beginning at $3.9K and peaking at $7.5K in late April before settling around $4.4K by the end of June. Weekly downloads demonstrated a similar trend, starting at 101K, dipping mid-quarter, and then rising to 109K by the end of June. Active users varied slightly but remained around 13M, with a peak of 13.5M in late May.

Telegram Messenger did not generate significant revenue until mid-June, where it peaked at around $1K. Weekly downloads fluctuated, starting at 57K, peaking at 130K in mid-April, and stabilizing around 56K by the end of June. Active users hovered around 2.5M throughout the quarter, with minor fluctuations.

Messenger maintained zero revenue during the quarter. Weekly downloads saw an upward trend, starting at 81K and reaching 102K by the end of June. Active users showed a general increase from approximately 8.5M to 9.3M, peaking in mid-May.

Status Saver Video Photo Save had a fluctuating revenue trend, starting at $8.5K and ending at $4.6K. Weekly downloads remained steady around 17K to 19K, with a slight dip towards the end of June. Active users steadily increased from 276K to 298K, peaking at 304K in early June.
